Our mud
The thermal mud of the Euganean Basin is produced by the happy association of
the clay from a small lake in the vicinity of Arquà Petrarca and the action of
the thermal water. This clay is left to ‘rest’ in special tubs to ‘mature’.
The maturation process lasts at least 60 days and allows for the proliferation
of beneficial microorganisms. This process profoundly modifies the mud, changing
in fact many of its biochemical and physical characteristics. The high temperature
in the maturation tubs allows the beneficial elements of the thermal mud to develop
fully.
The hot mud, at a temperature of 38-40°C is gradually applied to the various parts
of the skin. At the end of the mud bath, a hot shower washes away the mud and
there follows immersion in an ionised bath for about ten minutes, after which
the client remains stretched out on a bed for half and hour to an hour, during
which the sweating reaction occurs. This pause may be accompanied by a general
toning and stimulating massage. The application of mud fortifies the immune system,
which stress tends to weaken, making the organism more resistant to infections
and the damage deriving from them
The preventative and therapeutic effects of the treatment, but also the toning
and detoxifying effects and the improvement of the general state of health, are
proven by numerous scientific studies conducted by the Pietro D’Abano Research
Centre: a course of mud applications is effective in combating joint problems
and pain, in cases of motory difficulty following fractures, sprains and dislocations,
and in treating rheumatic diseases, disorders of the respiratory tracts and dermatological
conditions, but it is also an effective means of prevention and of psychophysical
wellbeing thanks to its myorelaxant action.
